The net effect of these enhancements was a 14-16% relative error reduction on distant microphones, and a 16-17% error reduction on close-talking microphones.
Also, for the first time, we report results on a new “coffee break” meeting genre, and on a new NIST metric designed to evaluate combined speech diarization and recognition.

In 1997-1999 I joined the Electromagnetic and Photonic Engineering Group of the Signal Theory and Communications Department (ETSETB, UPC, Barcelona, Spain) as a doctorate student. I was involved in the design of a Dual-Frequency Dual-Polarized Fractal-Shaped microstrip patch array for GSM900 and GSM1800 communications systems. One of my main tasks was to provide training, education and development of the teams core competency, and to provide R&D vision to address the rapidly growing mobile device market.
My current research interests were fractal and wideband printed antennas. Under this period, the company Fractus had secured major contracts with companies such as Samsung, LG, Bellwave to name a few.
From June 2004 to May 2006 I have been supporting Fractus-Korea R&D activities as well as handset antenna product development.).
This resulted in many patents, papers published, conferences, thesis, catalyzing the creation of a new company: Fractus Antennas to commercialize the booster-based antenna technology.
Changes in the acoustic preprocessing include updated beamforming software for processing of multiple distant microphones, and various adjustments to the speech segmenter for close-talking microphones.
Acoustic models were improved by the combined use of neural-net-estimated phone posterior features, discriminative feature transforms trained with f MPE-MAP, and discriminative Gaussian estimation using MPE-MAP, as well as model adaptation specifically to nonnative and non-American speakers.
