I have never in my career received so many comments--actually providing proof of my contention that some problems are set up artificially to test logical thinking but end up showing that such thinking is shaped by many other creative and variable processes.

In addition, the many comments have truly provided me with insights into the nature of puzzle-solving.

A somewhat different in nature and at the same time more abstract example would be to solve a mathematical problem or to prove a mathematical theorem.

I think an important idea is that, although we all inherently possess at least a bit of critical thinking capacity, so to speak, in order for this to make any sense at all you must develop critical thinking as a skill, much like you learn a language or's not about playing to see if you got something right or made an error per se, it's about acquiring and incorporating it as a habit for everyday life.

Question V: "Head" armchair-head of a dining table egghead imagination (where it occurs) overhead understand (one has to have a head for it) For what it's worth, I got all of the answers right and that would include entertaining the same things others tendered as possible answers as well. Lastly, what got me here was the question on PT's facebook post that landed me here titled: "Think you're clever?

Let's find out." The use of "clever" in this case implies that those who exercise critical thinking skills are clever. noun: critical thinking the objective analysis and evaluation of an issue in order to form a judgment.epistemology, philosophy of science, mathematics (with its undeniably rigorous nature). But for "beginners" and for those interested in the topic, you can check out the introductory books on critical thinking by Richard Paul (mentioned in this article) Richard Parker, Stuart Keeley, Debrah Jackson, Tracy Bowell and many more."Critical thinking" isn't primarily about knowing anything in particular. It has more to do with doubt and skepticism about information you have to deal with rather than with possessing or memorizing any particular piece of information.I am writing another book on the relation between puzzles, the mind, and culture and these comments have informed my writing enormously. Thanks, Marcel My answer : P : first two i also thoth wase a questions : D Planet Earth Once all those liquids where water. The rest can variate Mamouls There are all in english and mankind knows all those words : D On last one i wase a bit tired and ignorent, so didnt ewen took time to find out who are they, like cities ore countrys and did not checked in the map.. S countrys are allso made by mankind :) First, I salute everyone who participated. Question lll: Being a lover of all things animal, I chose not to start listing commonalities because I was afraid there would be no end to such.Maybe, as I say in the blog, my understanding of the term is not exactly what psychologists mean, although I have had discussions with them in the area of education and the idea that logic is influenced by experience is a key idea. I do really great with critical thinking, vocabulary, and spatial intelligence, but my brain completely freezes up when it comes to math.I have a math learning disability that brought my score down to 114.There are various definitions, but the one that best suits our purpose and which is, in the end, perhaps the best, is . Thanks, Marcel A creek is a natural freshwater stream smaller than a river, from an online definition. In the relevant scientific literature, of course, the term is used much more broadly as a framework for understanding human cognition. It does not have a fixed volume at a fixed moment in time, it is ever changing. Given enough time, a creek's volume can add up to more than that of a pond. Interpretation, background, and experience all influence the logic involved. Marcel Yes, you are right and you got me on this one. But I am happy that the puzzle showed how imperfect critical thinking can be and, especially how variable. Thanks so much, M Specifically, questions 2,4 and 6 evaluate the knowledge or ideas the reader has on general topics, to a certain degree, rather than testing his reasoning skills.
