The overall aim of the programme is to equip students with the ability to hone their writing skills and to develop areas of creativity at an advanced level, while the practical benefits offered by the module will enable students to pursue careers as professional writers, editors and publishers A focus on the ability to communicate clearly through precise language prepares students for a range of careers, from writing-based advertising or journalism, to related professions such as publicity or arts administration.

Along with your application you will be asked to submit examples of your creative writing, either two short stories (up to 2,500 words each), six poems (up to 12 pages) or a script (up to 10 pages).

Those who complete the PGCert can choose to transfer to the second year of our part time MA. There is no application closing date for this course.This will invigorate your own practice, whether you are writing psychogeography, plays, novels, stories or something else.You will choose from a variety of modules, covering topics such as: Our teaching staff are experienced and established writers who have a breadth of experience across literary genres, from novels, prose and plays, to poetry and song.Throughout the programme you will have the opportunity to develop your writing across a range of fields, expanding your repertoire by trying unfamiliar modes and genres.The MA has responded to the explosion of online publishing by supporting students in publication and promotion.You will go on to test your own writing in one of three Workshops dedicated to Poetry, Prose or Script.You will also take the opportunity to focus on areas of imaginative writing that are specialisms of our staff.Examples of our specialisms include: Our Profession of Writing module features guest speakers.The speakers are practitioners and/or associated with the world of publishing and performance.The School and the University support a number of reading and social events in which students are encouraged to participate.We also support the student-led design, production, publication and promotion of the well-received online journal Applicants may have achieved a 2:1 degree in Creative Writing or a cognate discipline (those with a 2:2 may be considered for entry to a Postgraduate Diploma in the first instance).
